TRAVELING WHILST KINKY

Being an African girl and not really into hair extensions and I am constantly rocking my natural hair either in a high puff after twist out. Actually its my signature look and i love it. Most times i constantly watch YouTube videos the whole day to come up with different hairstyles for my hair and when i follow the exact same procedure it turns out a failure, i sometimes wonder if i am doing something wrong or they actually do something off camera that makes my styles not turn out right…. it could be. .. some you-tubers can be real sneaky , i see you guysgiphy (23).gif

Well back to me having a kinky hair, it means people staring at my hair on the streets when I travel with the bold ones asking if its my real hair and most times i am like yeah it is mate . Others who i engage in a conversation would end up wanting to touch it and i mutter in my head ‘ pal it’s not an art exhibit’.giphy (14)

I remember the last time i stayed in a hostel when i first arrived in Manila i twisted out my hair to be this bouncy and curly in the morning when i wake up and about three of my roommates wanted to touch a braided hair,Am like  are you serious guys? And this Chinese girl said. oh you are from Africa, you guys really have some special hair…I am so over itgiphy (25).gif

I am  used to the stares down the streets and in the malls due to my kinky hair and most times as much as I may be shy i kind of love this feeling of a celebrity when excited people after touching my hair say they love them. Well babe we got something in common cause i love my hair too.giphy (26).gif

Some westerners I meet mostly Europeans think i lie when i say am pure African as to how my hair looks as the think the pure African girl has this short hair and always wear extensions, and when i insist i am pure African, they are like maybe you are mixed race and i just laugh it off not wanting to plunge more into my  messed up biological history.. wow that’s like hilarious. Come to think of it, people always ask questions about my race last time i visited Ghana, people thought i wasn’t Ghanaian too even though i had their passport,  they spoke English to me when i understand three of our local dialect of which i vented out in a post here DILEMMA OF MY MISTAKEN IDENTITY if you haven’t read it yet ! They say I look exotic when i travel, and looking exotic is kind of advantage until i bring out my notorious green passport then its like my rank dropped ….. ..giphy (27).gif

I love my kinky hair even though its hard to manage but its one of the things on me I will never change  for the world. I love how  it can shrink when it comes in contact with water, how it curls when its braided and how it stretches out at the touch of heat. Its just beautiful in its special way and i know most naturals will agree with me on that. Hi there kinky ganggiphy (29).gif

Most girls in my country will mostly approach me and ask how I grew my hair and i always give them the same answer, i have time for my hair and i love it the way it is, kinky and lovely and there is no way i am adding chemicals. And to those curious people who want to touch, touch it all you like cause really  it makes me proud and pushes me to pay more attention to its appearance cause you know what? I LOVE MY KINKY HAIR .giphy (30).gif

Are you team natural? have you had such reactions from people when you travel? what do you feel abpout the kinky african hair? are you fascinated by it? or do you want to touch it? Let me know in comments down below…

Until then the wolf is out being TEAM KINKY HAIR!!

  1. This excites me so much! I eventually want to start traveling! To go to another country and be pretty much exotic. I’m african american and my hair is natural. Sometimes it does get irritating when people want to touch my hair. I love my natural kinks. ❤

  2. I love my kinky hair but I hate the attention it brings when people try to treat it like an art exhibit…its my hair. I switch it up a lot as far as styles but that’s partly because as it grows I don’t like it in certain styles. It’s my form of expression. Ignore the YouTubers and just try something, my best styles have been from mistakes!

    1. oh sis, that attention, sometimes it feels like you are an art exhibit. Different styles i haven’t tried yet as i have been moving around quiet a lot, maybe in the few weeks to come, i will be finally settled and try out if i could come up with something. Its great that you love your hair dear. Thanks for stopping by and you do have an amazing blog.

  3. I love going natural. I might be one of the very few American women who has never dyed her hair. I have black friends who do their hair in such wonderful ways. I even told one that I would love to try doing the tiny braiding in mine once. I used to try to do it myself. I was always fascinated by it. Especially since my hair looks otherwise bland. But its me. And I like me just as I am. So glad that you do too!

  4. Good on you for having such a positive and confident outlook on your hair! It does look beautiful by the way. I can imagine it can get a little frustrating but it is also a compliment that people are taking such an interest. I wish I had this kind of love-relationship with my hair but its literally between frizz and waves with no inbetween!

    1. I guess i got to love what is on me and be proud of my genes. For your hair you should try this diy for treatment of frizz. You could find such pins on pinterest and sometimes on you tube by infamous you-tubers that is one thing i can vouch for them. Thanks for stopping by… i appreciate it

  5. Many people who have straight hair want to have wavy, curly, or kinky hair. While it’s okay to go through these procedures and treatment, it’s great that you embrace natural hair and feel confident about yourself.

  6. I’ve always believed believe it is an important thing to accept oneself the way we are. But in the end, it all comes down at whatever makes you happy! If your natural hair makes you happy, go for it! If not, change it!

  7. Lol. Girl, you should see my hair. So damn kinky but it suits me so much. I often hear “this wouldn’t suit me.” And it is so true but still, it’s a struggle at times. Now I want to see what your hair really looks like, gotta stalk your blog posts more.
